Irene Panteli, Music Therapy Student
How did you find out about music therapy as a profession?
“Hi! I am Irene and I am a current music therapy student in Heidelberg, Germany. I come from Cyprus. I found about Music therapy while I was studying BA Music in Greece. I soon realized that my true passion would be Music Therapy, so I changed my Major and started searching about it and learning German so I could study in Germany!
I chose Music Therapy, as I find really fascinating the fact that an increasing number of people from all ages can benefit from it. Music has been my passion from early age and a unique way to communicate with people. Latest evidence that music therapy has been making a difference to people's quality of life has been the trigger to choose it as my future job."
What are your hopes for music therapy in terms of equity, diversity, and cultural humility?
"I believe that music therapy has the power to be a universal form of communication. Building relationships with people from all around the world and learning from so many cultures through music is very interesting and powerful. Having respect to every culture is the key to build strong relationships and I am blessed to be part of this profession, where everyone can come as they are. Music therapy is becoming my life purpose. I just love music therapy!”
