How did you find out about music therapy as a profession?
“My mum introduced me to the field of music therapy! The field seemed so exciting, but fresh out of high school I was not ready to become a therapist. After a few years of music school, I decided to take the intro class at Concordia University. A decade later, I am absolutely loving what I do and back at school pursuing a PhD in Music and Health."
What are your hopes for music therapy in terms of equity, diversity, and cultural humility?
"I hope researchers and clinicians in the field are open to questioning unconscious biases and assumptions, and work towards systemic change. I hope we can continue to actively listen and learn from clients, our colleagues and allied professionals, and do the work on our own (cont ed, therapy, self-reflection) in order to help further cultural competency and understanding.”
